Review--Legacy of a Dreamer by Allie Jean

When I first started reading this book, I found myself very confused and somewhat irritated. Chantal is in foster care and treated badly. She is kicked out of her foster home on her 18th birthday and moves to New York City. I was so upset at the lack of planning for this girl's exit from the system! (I'm a social worker so I notice stuff like that.) Anyway, she is plagued with nightmares and starts to see shadows in the subway that she believes are going to kill her. Now I'm thinking that she is hallucinating (so does she). She manages to make a friend in her apartment building, but doesn't confide in her. Then, her Warrior, Nick, comes out of the shadows to save her from a violent man. This is where the story takes the most interesting turn. Chantal finds out that what she thought was true in her life isn't and what she thought were nightmares and hallucinations are actually true. Talk about confusing! However, as the story plays out (I'm not going to tell you how, you have to read it!), Chantal discovers all sorts of cool things about herself, including just how strong she really is. The book ends in a cliff hanger that is still kicking my butt and I am itching to get my hands on the next book (at least I hope there is a next book!) Overall, I really liked this book. I do still have a lot of questions, but so does Chantal, so I am hoping that all is revealed soon. 4 out of 5!
