Nolan Lennox is a young woman growing up in a small town. She has just started high school and is trying to figure out where she fits in the world. She has always been a tomboy and an athlete, preferring to stay out of the social spotlight. She meets Reed Johnson during her first volleyball tryout. He is a new freshman in school and is supposed to be the star quarterback. What follows is the story of Nolan's journey through the trials and tribulations of high school, dating, driving, sex, and growing up. While this book is long (over 400 pages) it is easy to get lost in it. Many of the things Nolan goes through, most of us women have been through and we can relate. I liked that she was strong yet vulnerable. She didn't presume to know everything, but she made an effort to stand up for herself when needed. Reed has his own issues going on, and their friendship is the main point of the story. I don't read much YA, but I'm glad I read this book. I recommend this book and I look forward to seeing what Ginger Scott has for us in the future! 4 out of 5!
