You were always the one I

From Elijah’s point of view
Nolan stood up as if he’d been bitten on
his ass, liquid dripping down his head. It mostly soaked into his T-shirt, and
what hadn’t, pooled around his feet. When he curled his fingers into a tight
fist, I got up too, ready to step in. Surrounded by students, I knew he
wouldn’t dare hit her, but regardless, Nolan was unpredictable.
Thankfully, he just growled and wiped
himself with the napkins his friends gave him. “What are you looking at?” he
shouted to the students at the nearby tables, then sat back down. Everyone
around cowardly turned away. Lexy, on the other hand, was smiling behind the
counter. As of right now, Alex was on my best friend list. After I let out a
hearty laugh, I threw my trash away, turned my cap back the way it was, and
headed toward Nolan’s table.
“Just get out of the shower, Nolan?”
Nolan pushed back his chair so fast that
it slid across the floor. Putting his face right in front of mine, he gritted
his teeth. “I hope I get to race you next time, pretty boy. I’m going to break
your record.”
“Yeah, that’s what they all say. As far
as the record book shows, I’m still number one. And next time I see you put
your hands on Alex, I’ll break every one of your fingers.”
It took all four of his friends to stop
him from coming after me. As he cursed and flailed his arms, I casually
strutted toward the door. Just before I exited, knowing his eyes were still on
me and fuming with rage, I flipped him my favorite finger; the same finger I
showed him many times before. I’m almost certain God created the middle finger
longer on purpose, for assholes like him.
