Stay With Me by Elyssa Patrick-Review/Author Interview

Book Title: Stay With Me (With Me #1)
Author: Elyssa Patrick
Release Date:  August 30th, 2013
Genre: New Adult/Contemporary Romance

Book Description
With one look, I’m his . . .

With one touch, he’s mine . . .

With one kiss, it changes everything between us . . .

I’ve been famous since I can remember. Singing, acting, dancing—I’ve done it all. The tabloids cover my every move, but I don’t want that anymore. I want to be normal, whatever that is.

When I leave Hollywood for college in Vermont, I’m on my own for the first time in my life. This is my chance to figure out who I am and what I want in life.

But it’s a lot harder than I expected. I can’t escape my image. Classes are difficult, and I’m struggling. And then there’s Caleb Fox.

Sexy, intriguing Caleb Fox.

Caleb is the one man who doesn’t want to use me. He breaks down my walls. He challenges me. He wants me. And I just don’t know if I can give him the same—or if he’ll stick around when he finds out my shameful secret that the tabloids haven’t managed to uncover.

Dating him is risky enough, but loving him could break me.

My Review:
I loved this book. From the very beginning I was immersed into Hailey's world. I felt her worry and anxiety. I am totally in love with Caleb and his family. This is more than a celebrity trying to return to normal book. It is about trusting yourself and others. It's about finding out who we are. It's about letting others in. I couldn't put it down and I am not-so-patiently waiting for the next one! 5 out of 5!!

Author Interview:

I am so excited to have Elyssa Patrick on the blog today! We had a chance to chat about her book, her life, and her likes/dislikes.

Please tell us about your journey into writing and publishing.

Thanks so much for having me on your blog! I’ve been writing for my whole life, but I got serious about publication about seven years ago. I tried the traditional route and had an agent, but both my books were rejected by every publisher. After parting ways with my former agent and not selling, I wondered if I would ever have my dreams of being published realized. Then I read Tammara Webber’s EASY and fell in love with it and her writing voice; I glommed her backlist and went through her blogs and hit upon a blog she had written about why she went indie. That particular blog post struck a chord with me, and it also made me realize that I should start believing in myself and go after what I want, regardless of what had happened in the past. It was definitely scary to take this gamble on myself, but sometimes you just have to do that. I’m so glad I did!

What song(s) would be on the soundtrack for your book?

Some of the songs would include To Show You My Love by Mike Schmid, which is actually the song playing in the book trailer; Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley, my favorite song, and Falling Softly from the musical Once, the song Hailey and Caleb dance to in one scene.

If your book was to become a movie, who would you cast as the main characters?

This is actually a hard one for me to answer. I don’t want to name any celebs and ruin what readers might imagine. But I would LOVE to hear who readers imagine for Hailey, Caleb, and everyone else.

Tell us something unique about you (that can’t be found in your author bio).

In college, I played Elizabeth Proctor in The Crucible for a local, professional theatre company, and I studied abroad in London in an intensive two-week program.

Who is your fictional character crush (Movie, TV, Literary)?

My fictional character crush is John Thornton in the TV movie, North & South, starring Richard Armitage. The train scene! Seriously, if you haven’t seen this yet, you need to. Right now.

How do you connect with readers? Do you really like it when they contact you?

I love to connect with readers, whether it be through Twitter (@elyssapatrick), my Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Elyssa-Patrick/354635801277736), or email (elyssapatrickATgmailDOTcom). I love hearing from readers and am always so happy and thrilled when I do.

How did you choose the cover of your book?

This actually was a long process! My cover designer, Sarah Louise, and I did a chat on her blog about the cover design (http://thebookpushers.com/). But basically I’d started off with a very different image but changed it because of two things: I saw another book had the exact same image, and my other images in the series just had a girl on the cover—I wanted to make the covers cohesive. So when I looked for a new image, I wanted something that felt more Hailey and what she looked like in my head, and luckily, I hit the jackpot with my image and cover!

Writing and editing can sometimes be exhausting. How do you relax?

Sleep, eat a lot of chocolate, tweet, watch TV, or read. :)

If you could offer one piece of advice to a prospective author, what would it be?

My one piece of advice is to keep writing, no matter what. You learn a lot and grow with each book you finish writing.

Do you have any future projects in the works?

Yes, I do! On November 14th, I’m in a self-published contemporary romance anthology called SNOWBOUND FOR CHRISTMAS. And then in mid-December, I’ll be releasing a novella in the With Me series called CHRISTMAS WITH ME, which features Jamie McAlister as the hero.
