Becoming More by Bayli Lane-Author Interview/Review

Title: Becoming More
Author: Bayli Lane
Genre: New Adult Romance

BOOK DESCRIPTION

At first it was all freedom, fun, and games for Lilly Fairfield. Being a freshman in college was supposed to create some of the best memories of her life, especially with her best friend, Lauren, and longtime boyfriend, Sander, by her side.

But the excitement begins to slip away when the people closest to her start to change. They begin moving in a direction Lilly doesn’t want to go, forcing Lilly to be faced with a decision. Should she fight for her relationships with both Sander and Lauren or move on to something different? Something unknown. Someone like…

Colton Davenport. Colton isn’t Lilly’s typical type. He's shockingly sexy with his colorful tattoos, shiny silver lip ring, and ear gauges. His smile alone leaves her breathless. Then again, she hasn’t had a specific type other than Sander. When she meets Colton she feels an automatic attraction that stuns her into utter stillness. She can’t look away, doesn’t want to look away.

Lilly must decide between a life with Sander, a life she always thought she wanted, and an unknown path with Colton.

Will Lilly make the right choices for her future, Becoming More?

**This book is a New Adult Romance - intended for a mature audience.**

Jane's Review:
Lily, the main character in Baylis Lane's Becoming More, is caught between past relationships and present circumstances.  She holds dear her longtime best friend and her high school sweetheart as the trio leaves their hometown to embark on their freshman year in college.  The dynamic of Lily's relationships with these two individuals change dramatically upon moving into the dorm.  She repeatedly gives them second chances which cause her emotional and physical harm.  She seems blind to the fact her new friends care more about than her old friends do.

At times I wanted to shake Lily and ask her where her brain was.  It was obvious that her best friend and her boyfriend were no longer who she thought they were.  She doesn't have the sense to cut her losses and move on with the new friends who have helped her get through the emotional and physical harm.  She also doesn't seem to get that the hot guy who keeps rescuing her from bad situations is falling for her.

Eventually Lily sees the clear picture and makes the all to obvious choice to quit pining for her past and move forward.

Some of the scenes seemed repetitive and Lily's sadness overshadowed her joy until the last few chapters.  I give this book 4 out of 5.
We had the opportunity to sit down with Bayli and ask her a few questions:

Please tell us about your journey into writing and publishing.
Well I really got into creative writing in college. I just never imagined I’d ever have the opportunity to publish. Well, I’m an avid reader and because of that found myself immersed in a whole new reading community. I found groups on goodreads and facebook that were talking about self published books. I had no idea what this was but turns out – I had read a self published book a long time ago but just didn’t realize it! Through these groups I learned more about the self publishing world. I learned what it entails and I began talking to other authors that were doing this. They really helped me and gave me the confidence to just try it out. So I did it! There were days I was overwhelmed. Sometimes I got confused and had no idea what to do… But then I had those people I could message and they would help me out in whatever way they could. It’s safe to say I wouldn’t have been able to publish this book without the support and kindness of other authors. They have helped me so much. Oh and so many blogs too. It’s amazing to me how selfless and caring everyone is in the Indie World! <3

What song(s) would be on the soundtrack for your book?

If your book was to become a movie, who would you cast as the main characters?
I actually know exactly who would play them. But one of them isn’t an actor. I would still cast him anyway! LOL.
Lilly- Willa Holland
Colton- Sulan Von Zoomlander
Sander-  Jay Hernandez
Lauren-  Taylor Momsen

Tell us something unique about you (that can’t be found in your author bio).
Hmmm… I did karate for about 13 years and earned my black belt twice!

Who is your fictional character crush (Movie, TV, Literary)?
Movie- Henry Cavill! Oh and Chris Hemsworth. AND Tom Hardy. Haha. Literary… Oh dear. Hmmm… so many. Andrew Parrish, Christian Grey, Travis Maddox, Will Cooper, Jace Wayland, Ripper, Shane Maxton, Kaidan Rowe…. I should just stop myself right now ;)

How do you connect with readers? Do you really like it when they contact you?
Yes! Love being contacted! I’m in lots of groups on facebook and have made some of the best friendships through them!

How did you choose the cover of your book?
Well I searched through a photography site. Once I found this photo I was stunned! It was perfect for my book. So I contacted the photographer and he gave me permission to use it. Then I sent it off to my cover artist and she fixed it up even more! I love it!

Who is on your “list” of celebrities you can sleep with that your significant other can’t get mad about?
The hubs would get mad over anyone. But he knows that if Thor walks through the door I may attack him.

Writing and editing can sometimes be exhausting. How do you relax?
Reading. I read a lot. And listen to tons of music. That calms me. Oh, and hot showers.

If you could offer one piece of advice to a prospective author, what would it be?
Just do it! If you love writing… If it’s what you feel most passionate about – then just do it. Stop making excuses. Stop freaking out about what people might think. Some will LOVE your book, others will hate it. When it comes down to it – you just have to be happy with what you created.

Do you have any future projects in the works?
Yup! I’m working on two books right now. I’m hoping my second book will be out by late November and the third by late February!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Bayli Lane didn’t realize how much she loved creating a world from nothing until college. She went to Marian University where she majored in Communications but in her spare time wrote and read. Her love for reading is what really brought out her desire to create her own novel. After starting loads of stories and not finishing them, she finally decided it was time to put her passion to work. Becoming More is her first novel but certainly not her last. Bayli lives with her husband, Tim, in Indiana where she is probably sitting with a large cup of coffee and her computer working on her next book.
